We Are Coaches

Oct. 07, 2024

WMHA is excited to share that BC Hockey is engaged in the Hockey Canada We Are Coaches program for female coaches. Please see note below from BC Hockey. This is an amazing opportunity for those who are already engaged in programming or for those female parents and guardians who would like to get involved!

We are offering the We Are Coaches programs for female coaches. We will reimburse all female coaches that complete their courses, as this is funded by Hockey Canada.

So if you have some female coaches please have them take the course below and it will be reimbursed at the end of October once they are completed!

About We Are Coaches

FREE coach training for women, by women

The We Are Coaches program offers free, women-only coach training that has been designed to increase the number of trained women coaches in Canada in order to provide mentors and role models for young participants.

The goals of We Are Coaches are to:

• Help build infrastructure to support and sustain the participation of girls and women in hockey in Canada.
• Develop women role models and leaders within the hockey community.
• Remove barriers to coaching education for women.

The Hockey Canada Foundation provides funding to Hockey Canada Members to deliver FREE women-only Coach 1, Coach 2 and/or Development 1 clinics each season. Please contact your provincial/territorial Member or visit the Hockey Canada Registry to register for a clinic in your area.

Additionally, the We Are Coaches Guide was created to ensure the first coaching experience of participants is positive and engaging while recognizing the connection between women coaches and the number of girls who not only choose to try hockey but continue playing. The recommendations included in the We Are Coaches Guide will help coaches to navigate their first experience as a coach while providing considerations and suggestions to enhance the experience of girls in hockey.

Although these recommendations were primarily created to support first-time coaches, more experienced coaches may also find them helpful. Feel free to use any or all of the checklist as a guide throughout the season.
